This composition depicts the moments
of the last supper when Christ has broken the bread and shares
his words, "This is my body, broken for you,"
and He takes the cup saying, "This is my blood, poured
out for many for the forgiveness of sins." (Matthew 26:26-28)
. . . these were difficult words.
At the same meal, Jesus takes the
basin and towel and kneels to wash the disciples' feet.
Peter exclaims, "Lord, do you wash my feet?"
Jesus responds by saying "Unless I wash you,
you have no part of me." (John 13:8) In
this loving and humble act we see demonstrated the principles
of life. Mankind finds eternal life in Christ.
Unless He washes us, we have no part of Him.
Abundant life is experienced only
as we offer ourselves in humble service to others in His behalf.
This painting is dedicated to the forerunners
of our faith, those described in Hebrews II and the
Apostles. Men of whom we are told the world is not
worthy of. They were beheaded, sawn in two, crucified,
hung, flayed with knives, and more. Their dedication
to the Savior is an inspiration which goes beyond words, an
inheritance I value deeply. |
